Creek Day is the Alpine Watershed Group's annual workday, and it has run every year since 2001. The creeks it works are the ones that feed this river: the morning goes into willow stakes along cut banks, trash out of the channels and off the highway shoulders, invasive plants pulled, and erosion work where a bank is going. The Group is a local nonprofit, and the crew is whoever shows up — neighbors, visitors, families with kids.
In 2026 it runs on Saturday, September 19, from 9:00 in the morning to 12:30. Everyone meets at Markleeville Library Park, 270 Laramie Street, where the Group checks people in, hands out tools, and sends each crew out with a site leader. The projects on this year's sheet are creek and highway cleanups, restoration work in Faith Valley and Hope Valley, and a kid-friendly activity at the library for the youngest hands.
The Group asks for an RSVP so they have a headcount and a signed waiver before the day, and they ask everyone to come dressed for the work: long sleeves, long pants, closed-toe shoes, a water bottle, and sun protection. If you are staying here that weekend, the park is a few minutes up the road in town, and the morning ends in time for an afternoon on the water. The workday is on the events calendar with the rest of the year; road and river conditions will say whether the creeks are running high the week of. The resort is not the organizer — the Group is — but the water they are working is the water outside the cabins, and we are glad to point you to them.
